‘A community service provided by Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault’

STATUS REPORT – DECEMBER 2010

During 2010 we have undertaken 44 (2009 – 64) assignments for 26 organisations in the SW. We believe we have provided a useful service which has been well received by the relevant organisations; we have not encountered any criticism of our services. 17 of the assignments were for ‘new clients’, indicating that our publicity is having some success, and also that we have several ‘regular clients’ who clearly feel it is worthwhile and helpful to use our service; three of these clients are important groups which are significant community service providers in the Bunbury area; we have also assisted 3 of the former ‘telecentres’ in the SW during the year.

In the last eighteen months we have had support from Rotary Club of Margaret River who have provided two Counsellors to supplement five Counsellors from Rotary Club of Bunbury Leschenault. As yet, there has been little enquiry from the Margaret River area.

The most frequent areas of advice are finance and constitutional. It is fair to say that our Counsellors with financial experience have been quite active, whereas other Counsellors have tended to be under-utilised. In any event, we certainly have the capacity to handle more enquiries.

Club Doctors has been operating for 4 years, and 2010 was the first year we have administered the service ourselves – we previously had  professional administrators, the most recent being Volunteer SW. We think it is coincidental that there has been a drop in enquiries in 2010; it could even be thought that we are working ourselves out of a job – but experience with community groups tells us that this is unlikely! Enquiries are still received over a mobile phone with a recorded message when the call cannot be taken, or at our email address.

Our marketing has been similar to prior years, ie brochures in libraries and sports centres, and monthly notices in Community columns of local papers throughout the SW. To boost our publicity in 2011 we will arrange for quarterly bulletins through the SWAP network; also we hope to have more publicity in the Bunbury Mail, including a ‘5 years celebration’ feature article.

The annual cost of running Club Doctors is approximately $1000, comprising telephone, website and business name costs. These costs are funded by a $1000pa grant from SWDC, for which we are most grateful. We also appreciate support from City of Bunbury who print our brochures as required and Bunbury Mail who place an advertisement for us each fortnight.
